An italian ring that built fake Ferrari’s was recently busted by the Italian authorities. They used mostly Pontiac’s as basis, and made the body look like a Ferrari Modena 360, a car that was taken out of production in 2004. 14 cars were confiscated, half already sold and the other half being constructed.
The fake Ferrari 360 Modena’s were being sold for $30,000 a piece, just 20% of the second hand price of a 2004 original model (around $150,000).
Apparently, the buyers knew that these were not original models, but they wanted to impress their neighbors.
